2.5 miles – (approx. 2 hrs, 45 min) : elevation 5050’ “Lake of the Clouds – Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail” – Trail starts at Cog Railway base station. Following the Ammonoosuc River the trail passes the base of the ammonoosuc ravine, then the steep trail ascends to the lakes. From here you can continue from the lakes to the Mt.Washington summit.
2.7 miles – (approx. 1 hr, 30 min) : “Zealand Valley Trail” – Starting at the end of Zealand road, the trail rises gently on an old railroad bed leading to open meadows teeming with wildlife. At the far end of the valley is Zealand pond, Zealand falls and the AMC Zealand falls hut.
3.2 miles – (approx. 2 hrs, 40 min) : elevation 4761’ “Mt.Eisenhower – Edmand’s Path” – Trail leads from the east side of Mt.Clinton road to the summit of Mt.Eisenhower. An excellent view of Bretton Woods valley. One of the easier trails up onto the Presidential Range.
4.6 miles – (approx. 3 hrs, 55 min) : elevation 6288’ “Mt.Washington – Jewell Trail” – Trail begins at the Cog railway base station. Winding and zig-zagging through rugged forest, the trail works it’s way up to the North shoulder of Mt. Washington and from there on to the summit. Alpine shrubs and flowers. At the summit there is a cafeteria, gift shop, post office and museum.
5.4 miles – (approx. 3 hrs, 10 min) : elevation 3554’ “Cherry Mountain – Black Brook Trail” – Trail begins ½ mile west of living waters campground on Route 302. Trail passes through hardwood forest. Summit offers beautiful view of Presidential Range.
8.2 miles – (approx. 6 hrs) : “Mt.Washington – Crawford Path” – Trail begins directly across from the former site of the Crawford House on Route 302. A more demanding hike offering rewarding views. The trail crosses the entire Southern Presidential Range. 5 miles of this trail lies above the timberline.
